In 2010, Florida will be facing a Senatorial battle that will be a microcosm for the fight within the Republican Party Nationwide. IN the near future I will be delving into the voting records of these two candidate as the primary heats up. I will also be temporarily be changing my voter registration to Republican so that I can vote in the Primary. Florida has a closed Primary where independents cannot vote in Republican or Democrat primaries. That does no mean that I am aligning myself with either party, rather I want to be able to vote against Crist what will in a hotly contested primary. This will be the first time in my life I will have ever been registered to any political party and I promise to change my registration back to independent the day after the election.
1st we have the underdog, former speaker of the State House, Marco Rubio
(From Rubio's website: )His main opponent in the GOP primary is Marco Rubio, a 38-year-old Miami native who quotes Snoop Dogg lyrics on his Twitter account. On paper, it looks like a mismatch between an unbeatable juggernaut and a doomed also-ran. Yet Crist may be vulnerable: He warmly embraced President Obama’s stimulus spending and is one of the most liberal politicians in the Republican firmament. Rubio is among the brightest young stars on the right. Their contest could become the sleeper race of 2010.
Here we Have Marco Rubio's stance on the issues from his web page:
SPENDING: “I am gravely concerned by a federal government that continues spending money it doesn’t have. In early 2009, I joined Florida’s entire Republican congressional delegation in opposing the $787 billion stimulus bill. In the U.S. Senate, I will support measures like a balanced budget amendment and the line-item veto that will help control the excessive and wasteful spending in Washington that threatens to leave future generations with crushing debt and a country worse off than that of their parents and grandparents.”
