I finally made up my mind on third parties.

Wanted to give a shout out to Why Mommy is a Republican and to say that I have gone back and forth on this issue several times since the elections. But I have come to agreement with those who say we just have to take the republican party back. This is just as easy as trying to get (quality) third party candidates to run. There are some districts in Missouri where there is only one party who even runs, so how to get a third party to run is a real question.

I have not seen anyting out of Michael Steele that gives me great hope that he will get the RINOs (Republican In Name Only) out and steer the party back to conservativism.

That being said, we can guarantee ourselves a loss if we try to run third party candidates, no matter how bad I would like to. That has been tried and proven disastrous several times.

I think this is where Glenn Beck's idea for the 912-ers to become the largest special interest group is a valid one. Rush has even said he is thinking about hiring a Lobbyist for Conservatives. He has not mentioned it lately but if he really does I will donate some cash for that.

One thing is for sure... if we always do what we have always done, we will always get what we have always got.

In a way, I agree with you. I don't want a 3rd part to end the Republican party. Just for a group or "party" maybe even the term "faction" would apply better that the Republicans would have to truly fear losing. I believe electing 1 or 2 3rd party independent conservatives into Congress would bring the Republicans home. I do not want this to lead to another Perot debacle.
Let me put this another way. When election time comes, I want to hear that the Republicans have to cater to their "CONSTITUTIONALIST" base rather than their "conservative" base. The Repubs left us to try to get swing voters and moderate Dems. Most swing voters and moderae Dems are "constitutionalist" by nature. They are in the "tea party" events as much as we are. I believe in order to achieve this, we need to put the fear of "the believers in" God in Republican party. Voting them out didn't work so what's next? I do not want to abandon the Repubs, just make them understand what the ramifications of continuing in direction they are going. If the Repubs keep going for the left what other choice do we have than to abandon them
Thank you, KOOK. I think we CAN do this. All we have to do is look at what a weak and ineffectual campaigner McCain was, to see where "centrist" RINO policies lead us. Some Republicans who switched sides in the last election to vote for Obama did so because of overspending by Republicans, and disappointment with the lack of conservatism in that party. I recall reading comments on the internet saying that they hoped Obama would really screw things up and then the country would see why we need conservatives. Too bad the balance of power is so skewed right now that our nation is on the brink of disaster, and sliding into the hole. As nauseating as it is, we have to face up to it. We need a Reagan. He did a great job articulating the strength of the private sector "once government gets out of the way". I hope we can find a man who will hold true to Reagan's principles in OFFICE and not just on the campaign trail. We will need to vet him thoroughly on his past ACTIONS and not just pretty words, like everybody fell for Obama, despite his Marxist past and most liberal voting record. "Of course he will become more centrist in office, everybody does", people assured me. Er, guess what. WRONG. Ooops. I'm writing a dissertation. He he.
Look at the Dems with the "Congressional Black Caucus" for example. When the CBC says jump, the congressional janitors end up cleaning Pelosi's botox off the ceiling of the congressional chambers. Why don't we have a "Congressional Constitutional Caucus." If we could organize groups like the NRA, for instance that promote supporting the Constitution, it would be a major player. That's what the Dems have done with groups supporting Environmental, Abortion, Illegal immigrants etc. We also need a good "agitant" group to combat Acorn at every turn. I would call it "Chipmunk." The bottom line is, something needs to emerge from this that is big enough to scare the Republicans into having a "mea culpa" moment. I have not seen anything from the Republicans to give me any faith in them yet. If they don't pull a big u-turn in the next 6 months and both admit their mistakes as well as lay out a plan for how to fix their mess, I believe a third party will emerge, like it or not.
